Life
on the Farm
When we're not tending the Christmas trees, we enjoy taking care of Rancho Poco Loco. While the Christmas trees stay put, our animals are constantly on the move. We have regular round ups to move
animals into different pens to control who's with the bull and jack, who's being weaned, and who's near our home. We like to rotate
the animals in the pen closest to the house because those are the animals we see every day, and we want all our animals to be comfortable around everybody.
The animals get very excited when they see the hay dolly coming! We have
to be quick and get the ring around the hay bale before they scatter
they hay all around with their horns. |
Once all the chores are done, there's usually time for some serious fishing in the lake. We catch mostly large-mouth bass, but there are also bluegill, sunfish, and a few catfish. Once in a while you'll see our grass carp. They're here to help keep the lake clear by eating the vegetation. You know them by their large size, but since they're vegetarians, they don't chase our lures.

We've also got quite a few Red-Eared Slider turtles, as you can see
below. The sliders are very safe turtles that don't bite. |

| The April bluebonnets were spectacular in 2004, and
we do enjoy having fields full of them here at Rancho Poco Loco. |
